Uber goes green at Mumbai International Airport, rolls out on-demand EV rides with ‘Uber Green’

Uber, India’s leading ridesharing app, today announced the launch of its flagship EV product, Uber Green with Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) being the first location in Mumbai to offer the service. Accelerating sustainable mobility in India, Uber now offers on-demand electric vehicle (EV) rides with Uber Green, allowing riders to enjoy eco-friendly transportation options with a simple tap on the app.

Uber Green will be currently available for passengers requesting a green ride to and from the Mumbai Airport. The new service will be available at a dedicated pick-up zone at Terminal 2 at Mumbai International Airport, and across various parts of Mumbai, ensuring that a wider range of passengers can contribute to reducing carbon emissions and promoting sustainable mobility throughout the city.

Commenting on the launch, Spokesperson, Uber India and South Asia, said, “Building on our strong association with Adani Airports and our shared commitment to sustainability, we are thrilled to introduce Uber Green in Mumbai starting from The Mumbai International Airport. Sustainability shouldn’t be complicated; it should be effortless. With Uber Green, riders can make a small change that collectively leads to a significant environmental impact, one ride at a time. By offering on-demand electric rides, we aim to provide a convenient and zero-emission transportation option for our riders in Mumbai, taking a major step forward in our electrification journey.”

Spokesperson Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport, said, “We are delighted to partner with Uber in launching ‘Uber Green’ at Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA). Over the years, Mumbai Airport has made resilient efforts in contributing to making aviation sustainability a reality and is committed to achieving operations Net Zero Carbon Emission. The airport recently achieved the Highest-Level 4+ “Transition” of Airport Carbon Accreditation (ACA) program of Airport Council International (ACI), making it only the 3rd airport to achieve the esteemed certification in the Asia-Pacific region. By providing passengers with the option of on-demand EV rides, we are collectively taking significant strides towards sustainable transportation and carbon emission reduction in the city. This launch aligns with our vision of promoting eco-friendly mobility and reinforces our commitment to creating a more sustainable and environmentally conscious Mumbai.

As Uber paves the way for a greener future, it remains dedicated to providing reliable and affordable transportation options to riders while minimizing the impact on the environment. With Uber Green set to roll out to other cities, riders can now travel sustainably, contributing to a cleaner and healthier planet for all.

Uber has committed to become a zero-emissions mobility platform by 2030 in Europe and North America, and globally by 2040. On sustainability, Uber has more than tripled the number of electric vehicles on the platform and connected 31 million unique riders with a ride in an electric vehicle in 2022. EV drivers on Uber are going electric 5X faster than the general public and even faster in places like London, highlighting the potential for the ridesharing industry to accelerate the transition to electrification. The Science Based Targets Initiative has also approved Uber’s near and long-term science-based emissions reduction targets, making us one of the first 30 US-based companies to have such targets approved.
