Rahul Dravid's Cricket Journey: From School Fields to National Recognition

Rahul Dravid's tryst with cricket began at the age of 12, when he first picked up a bat in Bangalore. Representing Karnataka at the under-15, under-17, and under-19 levels, his talent soon caught the eye of former cricketer Keki Tarapore during a summer camp at the Chinnaswamy Stadium.

Making his mark early, Dravid notched up a century for his school team and also showcased his skills as a wicket-keeper. His entry into competitive cricket came with his Ranji Trophy debut in February 1991, while he was still in college. Playing alongside future Indian stalwarts Anil Kumble and Javagal Srinath against Maharashtra in Pune, he scored 82 runs in a match that ended in a draw.

Dravid's prowess with the bat continued to shine as he followed up with a century against Bengal and three consecutive centuries thereafter. His breakthrough season in 1991–92 saw him accumulate 380 runs at an impressive average of 63.30, earning him a spot in the South Zone cricket team for the prestigious Duleep Trophy.

His consistent performances did not go unnoticed by the national selectors, particularly his standout displays for India A during the home series against England A in 1994–95. These performances marked the beginning of Rahul Dravid's journey towards national prominence in Indian cricket. Note, Dravid holds a unique record of never getting out for a Golden duck in the 286 Test innings that he has played during his career.
